Clayton CA Real Estate
About 11,000 residents make their home Clayton, a small city nestled at the foot of Mount Diablo. Founded in 1857, Clayton is proud of its history as a former coal mining town that in 1964 became the 13th city to incorporate in Contra Costa County.
Today Clayton is a community that values civic pride, family life, and an appreciation of the traditons and volunteer spirit that gave the town its start. Residents are active supporters of such townwide annual events as the Art and Wine Festival, Clayton’s own Fourth of July parade, a rib cook-off, and an Oktoberfest celebration. One of the most popular community events in the Concert in the Grove summer series in Downtown Park.
CNN Money Magazine named Clayton on the “Top 100 Places to Live in the Nation” three times. According to Money’s ranking, Clayton is “a suburb that doesn’t feel like one.” Its unique character binds the community like the 27 miles of trails for pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians that meander through the town.
Clayton is part of Mt. Diablo Unified School District, one of the largest school districts in California. Students in Clayon attend Mt. Diablo Elementary School, Diablo View Middle School, and Clayton Valley Charter High School.
